TransUnion Dispute Guide: What to Check and How to Organize It
The goal is not volume. The goal is a specific, truthful dispute supported by a record you can follow later.
Review the identity section
Look for names, addresses, or file information that does not belong to you. Genuine identity theft follows a different process and should only be claimed when true.
Review each account
Compare ownership, balances, limits, account status, payment history, dates, and duplicates against your own records.
Describe the discrepancy plainly
State what appears on the report, what you believe is correct, and why. Avoid boilerplate claims that do not fit your facts.
Use TransUnion’s current official channel
Check TransUnion’s current dispute instructions or the address on your report. Save confirmation details.
Log the result
Record dates, outcomes, and any updated report. That timeline becomes useful if the issue requires a later follow-up.
