Experian Dispute Guide: What to Review Before You Submit
Before submitting anything, separate information that is unfavorable from information you genuinely believe is inaccurate or incomplete.
Review identity information
Check names, addresses, and other identifying details for mixed-file or identity issues. Do not include unnecessary sensitive credentials in notes or forms.
Review account details
Compare ownership, balance, credit limit, account status, payment history, open date, delinquency dates, and duplicate listings against records you trust.
Document the exact issue
Write a short factual statement describing what the report shows, what you believe is correct, and the evidence that supports your position.
Use official channels
Use Experian’s current official dispute instructions or the current mailing information shown on your report. Keep proof of what you sent.
Track the outcome
Save response dates and results. If information is corrected, keep the updated report with the case. If it remains disputed, organize the next factual step rather than repeatedly sending the same unsupported claim.
